PUP GWA Calculator

Compute your Polytechnic University of the Philippines GWA from PUPSIS grades, subject units, and transcript-style records. Include only the rows that should count for your semester or cumulative estimate.

Calculate PUP GWA by Grade and Units

Use numeric final grades such as 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, or 5.00. Toggle "Count" off for a row only when your official record says that subject should be excluded from the current computation.

This calculator is for planning. For transcript, retention, transfer, scholarship, Latin honors, or graduation decisions, compare the estimate with PUPSIS, your official transcript, and the current rule from your college or registrar.

How the PUP GWA Calculator Works

The PUP GWA calculator uses the standard units-weighted average formula used by many Philippine colleges: multiply each final grade by its course units, add the grade-unit products, and divide by the total counted units. This gives a better estimate than a simple average because a 3-unit subject affects the result more than a 1-unit subject.

Use the page for a semester GWA when you enter only one term. Use it for cumulative GWA when you enter all counted subjects across several terms, or use the cumulative GWA calculator when you already have semester GWA values and total units.

Step Formula or Action What to Check in PUPSIS
1 List each subject and credited units Use the units shown beside the course in PUPSIS or your transcript.
2 Grade x Units Use the final numeric grade only after it is encoded or confirmed.
3 Total weighted points / total counted units Exclude only rows that your college or registrar says should not count.

Example PUP GWA Computation

Suppose a PUP student has three counted subjects:

Subject Grade Units Points
GEED 100131.5034.50
COMP 200331.7535.25
PATHFIT2.0024.00

The total points are 13.75 and total units are 8, so the estimated PUP GWA is 1.72. If one row should not count for your current purpose, mark it as excluded and recalculate.

What to Do With INC, W, Dropped, or Failed Rows

PUP records may include entries that are not ordinary completed numeric grades. A row marked INC, W, dropped, withdrawn, or still pending should not be converted casually into a number. The correct treatment depends on the purpose of the computation and the policy currently applied by your college or office.

  • Use Exclude only when the row is not counted for the current estimate.
  • Enter 5.00 only when the official final grade is actually 5.00.
  • For transfer, re-admission, scholarship, or graduation checks, verify whether any failing, dropped, withdrawn, or incomplete grade has a separate eligibility effect.
  • Keep a copy of the official PUPSIS or transcript values used for the estimate.

PUPSIS and Official PUP References

Use this tool after checking the grades shown in PUP student services or your PUPSIS record. PUP pages also mention grade-related conditions for some processes, such as transfer and re-admission requirements that reference General Weighted Average and the absence of failing, dropped, withdrawn, or incomplete grades.

Because program, campus, and year-level rules can differ, treat this calculator as a transparent math worksheet. Confirm final decisions with your department, adviser, registrar, or the official PUP announcement page that applies to your case.

For a known GWA value that you only need to interpret, use the GWA Equivalent Calculator. For conversion to a 4.0 estimate, use the GWA to GPA Converter.

PUP GWA Inputs, Outputs, and Edge Cases

Inputs

Subject name is optional. Grade and units are required for counted rows. The calculator accepts decimal units for laboratory or special cases, but you should match your official record.

Outputs

The result panel shows estimated PUP GWA, counted units, and a planning note. Lower numeric GWA values are generally stronger on the 1.00 to 5.00 scale.

Validation

Grades must be from 1.00 to 5.00, units must be greater than zero, and at least one row must be counted. Invalid rows trigger an error before a result is shown.

PUP GWA Calculator FAQ

Multiply each final grade by its credited units, add all grade-unit products, then divide by the total counted units. Use the grades and units from PUPSIS, your transcript, or an official grade report.

Yes, if you enter every counted subject across the terms you want to include. If you already know each semester GWA and semester units, the cumulative GWA calculator is faster.

Do not guess. The correct treatment depends on your official record and the purpose of the computation. Mark a subject as excluded only when your college, registrar, or policy document says it should not count.

No. It does not connect to PUPSIS or store student data. You manually copy the grades and units you want to check, and the calculation happens in your browser.

No. It is an independent calculator for planning and checking arithmetic. Use official PUP records and current policy guidance for decisions about transfer, scholarship, honors, retention, or graduation.
