Important accuracy note

STI classes may use course-specific components, grade transmutation, attendance rules, or laboratory weights. Treat this calculator as a planning estimate and verify official requirements with your instructor or campus records.

How the STI GWA Calculator Works

The STI GWA calculator has two steps. First, it estimates each course grade from the term scores you enter. Second, it uses the standard weighted average formula across all courses: each course average is multiplied by its units, all weighted values are added, and the result is divided by total units.

This format helps STI students who have several grading periods and want to know how much the final period can affect the course average. It is also useful when you already know your course averages and want to combine them into one units-weighted estimate.

Step Formula What to Check
Course average (Prelim x weight) + (Midterm x weight) + (Pre-final x weight) + (Final x weight) Make sure the weights total 100 percent before calculating.
Weighted points Course average x course units Use the credited units shown in your student record or syllabus.
Estimated GWA Total weighted points / total units Compare the result with official portal records before making decisions.

Example STI Grade Calculation

Suppose a 3-unit subject has 88 in prelim, 90 in midterm, 87 in pre-final, and 92 in final. With the 20 / 20 / 20 / 40 setup, the course estimate is:

88 x 0.20 + 90 x 0.20 + 87 x 0.20 + 92 x 0.40 = 89.8

If that course is combined with other subjects, the calculator multiplies 89.8 by 3 units, repeats the same process for every course, and divides by total units. This prevents a one-unit subject from affecting your GWA as much as a three-unit major subject.

When to Change the Term Weights

Use the default 20 / 20 / 20 / 40 weights only when they match the grading basis for your class. Some STI courses, instructors, or modules may use different assessment components, especially when laboratory work, projects, performance tasks, or departmental exams have separate percentages.

If your syllabus lists a different distribution, edit the four weight fields before calculating. For example, a class might use 25 percent prelim, 25 percent midterm, 20 percent pre-final, and 30 percent final. The tool accepts any distribution as long as the total is exactly 100 percent.

What This Tool Does Not Replace

This STI grade calculator does not replace official grade encoding, grade transmutation, retention policy, scholarship screening, or graduation evaluation. It gives a transparent estimate from the numbers you enter, so incorrect inputs or missing course rules will also produce an incorrect estimate.

For final decisions, check your One STI Student Portal or the official STI website, ask your instructor about the exact grading components, and confirm registrar guidance when a grade affects retention, honors, scholarship, internship, or graduation clearance.

STI GWA Calculator FAQ

No. It is an independent planning tool. Use official STI portal records, instructor computations, and registrar documents for final academic decisions.

If your subject uses different components, adjust the weights to match the syllabus or use the final course average in all four score fields with weights set to 100 / 0 / 0 / 0.

The calculator uses the raw percentage values you enter and does not apply a hidden transmutation table. If your class uses a transmuted final grade, enter the transmuted values or confirm the correct rule with your instructor.

Yes. Add one row per course, enter the units and term scores, then calculate. The final GWA estimate weights each course by units.
