How to Use This UP GWA Calculator

1. Enter courses

Type the course code or a short label so you can review the result later.

2. Add grade and units

Use the numeric grade and credit units shown in your UP record.

3. Mark exclusions

Choose Exclude for PE, NSTP, HK, SP, or other subjects only when your rules require it.

4. Check the result

Review included units, excluded units, and the calculated GWA before using it for planning.

How the UP GWA Calculator Works

The UP GWA calculator uses the weighted average formula students use when checking semester or overall performance: GWA = sum of grade x units divided by sum of included units. A 3-unit course affects the result more than a 1-unit course, so entering units correctly matters as much as entering the grade.

UP students often need one extra option that a generic GWA calculator does not show: whether a course should count in the GWA. Some records or college rules may exclude courses such as PE, NSTP, HK, SP, thesis, dissertation, or other pass/fail requirements from certain computations. This page lets you mark those rows as excluded while still keeping them visible in your planning table.

If you searched for a UP Diliman GWA calculator or UPD GWA calculator, the same weighted method still applies. The important difference is not the campus name, but the purpose of the average: semester planning, cumulative standing, Latin honors, shifting, scholarship retention, or a college-specific rule can all define included courses differently.

Example UP GWA computation

Course Grade Units Points
Math 21 1.75 4 7.00
Kas 1 1.50 3 4.50
PE 2 1.25 2 Excluded

Included grade points: 11.50. Included units: 7. Estimated GWA: 1.64.

UPD and UP Campus Use Cases

Use this calculator for UP Diliman, UP Manila, UP Los Banos, UP Cebu, UP Visayas, UP Mindanao, or other UP campus planning when you have numeric grades and units. It is especially useful for a quick semester check before comparing against official portal records.

  • Semester GWA: enter only the courses from one term.
  • Cumulative estimate: enter all included courses, or use the cumulative GWA calculator when you already have term totals.
  • UPD grade average checks: verify whether your office asks for GWA, CWA, CWAG, or another weighted average before final submission.

What to Do With S, U, INC, DRP, and 4.00

The calculator is designed for numeric grades that can be weighted by units. For marks like S, U, INC, DRP, or deferred outcomes, do not guess a number unless your college gives a conversion rule for the exact purpose you are checking.

A 4.00 or 5.00 should only be included when it appears as the final numeric grade for the computation. If a course later changes status or is resolved, update the row and recalculate before relying on the result.

Official UP References to Check

Use this calculator for fast planning, then verify rules against your own college, campus registrar, or scholarship instructions. UP pages can distinguish GWA, weighted average grade, and other averages depending on the purpose.

Privacy and Accuracy Notes

The calculation runs in your browser. You do not need to upload a transcript, student number, or portal account. The downloaded report is a local text file generated from the values currently on the page.

If your official result differs, check whether the office used GWA, CWA, CWAG, a program-specific weighted average, or a scholarship-specific rule. Those rules can change which subjects count.

When to Exclude a Course

Use the exclude option only when your college or official record says the course should not be part of the specific GWA you are calculating. Do not exclude a course just because it is low, because that will make the estimate misleading.

  • Exclude PE, NSTP, HK, SP, or pass/fail courses only when your program rules say they are not counted.
  • Include regular academic courses with numeric UP grades and credit units.
  • For Latin honors, shifting, retention, and scholarship checks, follow the exact rules published by your college or scholarship office.
  • If a transcript shows a different computation, treat the transcript as the source of truth.

UP GWA Calculator FAQ

Multiply each included course grade by its units, add those products, then divide by the total included units. For example, grades of 1.75 in a 4-unit course and 1.50 in a 3-unit course produce 11.50 grade points over 7 units, or 1.64 GWA.

It depends on the computation you need. Many UP students exclude PE, NSTP, or similar required non-academic courses for some GWA checks, but you should follow your college rules, scholarship instructions, or official transcript notes.

Yes. UP Diliman students can use the same weighted formula by entering numeric grades and units from their course records. The important part is to mark excluded subjects correctly for the purpose you are checking.

No. It is an independent planning tool that applies the standard weighted average formula. Use it to check your math, then verify official values through your college, OUR, student portal, scholarship office, or transcript.

Enter the numeric grade shown on your record, usually in the UP 1.00 to 5.00 scale. The input accepts quarter-grade steps such as 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, and 2.00, and it also allows typed decimal values when your record uses them.

Yes. UP Diliman students can use it for weighted grade planning by entering course grades and units. For official decisions, compare the result with the UPD OUR or your college instructions because some purposes use GWA, CWA, CWAG, or other averages.

Do not enter non-numeric marks as guessed grades. Leave them out or mark the course excluded until your record shows a final numeric grade or your college provides an official rule for that average.
